A night at the opera

Would any visit to Vienna be complete without a night at the opera? I think not.  So, off we go…and luckily it’s an easy one to follow, as it’s only my second-ever opera outing.  This is Puccini’s Tosca, a tale of love and jealousy, despair and death.  But I confess I’m here as much for the experience of an evening at the Vienna State Opera as I am for the music.  For the chandeliers and champagne, the gowns and glamour, the soaring ceilings and sheer grandeur of it all.  And the fact that we started our night out with sausage and beer at a hot dog stand behind the opera house – along with many Viennese also heading to the performance – made it even more memorable.

A Glass Half Full travelled to Vienna as a guest of the Austrian National Tourist Board.
