Faces of Taiwan
Young lantern makers, Sky Lantern Festival, Pingxi
Taiwan was a wonderful surprise to me. One of the things I loved most about it was the smiling people. Over the next couple of weeks I’ll be blogging about aspects of my first visit to Taiwan in more detail, but first I thought I’d share some of the wonderful faces I photographed.
My visit was at the time of the annual Lantern Festival, which is a major part of Chinese New Year celebrations. Everyone was happy and the two-fingered V sign was flashed – along with a huge smile – often, as with the group of young lantern-makers in my new page header (above).
Here are just a few of the faces I saw during a week in Taiwan. I hope they make you smile back!

Hi Lee, I first visited Taiwan in 1988 and have been back many times since as my sister lived there for a while. It’s a fascinating place and I’ve got great memories of taking my daughter to the Lantern Festival when she was two. It was huge then – I wonder what it is like now?
Well, I think you’d still love it Christine. The Lantern Festival is HUGE. I’ll be posting more about that soon. Your sister was very lucky to have the chance to live there, I think. Parts of Taipei were really charming.
