As Australia swelters in a summer heatwave, everyone’s heading to the beach. This classic shot from the black-and-white files of photographer Tommy Campion, taken in the 1980s on Surfers Paradise beach, is a reminder of two things. Always swim between the flags, where lifeguards patrol, and make sure to protect your eyes from the sun. Even the hounds do it.
A dog wearing sunglasses, says Tommy, is a photographers’ favourite.
Have a good weekend, everyone!

I have just posted some old photos of our childhood days on the Gold Coast. It was a fun time to be there.
It’s a paltry (in your terms) 29.5 degs at my place in Auckland today, but the humidity’s around 85-90% and I’m feeling very hot and sticky. Will be doing my swimming in a pool today though :)
With trendy sunglasses and a fashionable haircut, the dog had tongues a-wagging on the beach, but he never did go out and rescue anyone from the surf.
Hi Lee
Just discovered your new blog via Annabel @getinthehotspot. Love the pic. Cool dog. Is he a play mate of Millie the Subwoofer?!
No Nita, Millie and this dog are generations apart…and never did meet on the beach (different beaches too!). So pleased you found my blog – hope you enjoy reading it!
Hi Lee
Will do. Have a good Australia Day!
